A law, often called an Act, is a Bill that has been approved by both Houses of Parliament and received Royal Assent from the Governor-General. The main difference between the two is status. A Bill is only a draft under consideration by Parliament, while a law (Act) is final and enforceable.
All laws start as Bills, but not all Bills become laws. (Please see the “Bill to Law” flyer to learn how a Bill becomes a Law.)
